HUMAN HAIR vs. SYNTHETIC HAIR

Is human hair better than synthetic?

NO! Choosing a type of wig is more of a personal preference. For example, a person looking for a wig that is easy to maintain and less expensive would choose a synthetic wig. A person looking for a wig they plan on wearing everyday and that they can curl themselves would choose a human hair wig.

Keep in mind that just because human hair wigs cost more it does not mean they are the "better" wigs to buy. Many times a high quality synthetic wig looks more realistic than a low quality human hair wig.

Human Hair - more versatility, longer durability, custom styling and coloring. More difficult to take care of because each time it gets wet, it will lose the style just like your own hair does.

Synthetic Hair – look natural, less expensive, pre-styled, require less care, easy to maintain and pre-styled. Holds basic curls after washing (wash-and-wear).

DETERMINE YOUR FACIAL SHAPE

1 - Hair back and secure with pins or a headband so hair is completely off the face.

2 - Stand 12" from a mirror and look straight into it -- or have someone take a picture of you facing straight into the camera with your hairline showing.

3 - Outline your face with a marker on the mirror with tracing paper, or on the photo.

4 - Now look at your face shape in the mirror or photo drawing. Choose the shape that most closely resembles your own. If your face is a combination of shapes, choose styles based on the following criteria, which most flatter your particular shape.

Oval - Perfect face shape & will suit most styles.
Round - Stay away from center partings & rounded curl movements, which accentuate the roundness of the face, making the face appear wider. It's best to avoid short and sleeked-back hairstyles, full, straight-falling bangs. Wear longer styles closer to the face to give length.

Hair below the chin line should be worn with a face-lengthening center part; for hair above chin line, wear an off-center part to interrupt the roundness. In short-angled styles, you are best seen with hair brushed away from the face, building extra crown height to narrow the roundness of your features. Though bangs shorten the face, you can wear curly, tousled bangs or a soft wispy fringe.

Square - Avoid width in this area & solid lines etc.

Go for long wispy fringes, chin length layers & shapes that hug the face. Never wear straight bangs. Wear your best styles with hair swinging forward onto the face to reduce the angles. Hair worn on the forehead is always perfect for you, as long as it is wispy or fringed. Hair turned under at the bottom also will narrow the width of the jaw. Styles in loose curls and waves add extra dimension to the square face.

Oblong - Avoid solid lines & long flat styles. Breaking up the length with layers around the eyes, cheekbones & ears create texture & movement. A fringe will effectively 'shorten' the length of the face. Round curly styles will do the same & a side parting will create the effect of roundness to soften the length.
Heart-shaped - Avoid height & volume at the temple area.
Pear-shaped – A big no-no to take the hair away and back off the face. Bring some width above the cheekbones and avoid solid lines & width at the jaw line.

CLEANING YOUR WIG

1 - Before you wash, gently brush out the tangles. For tight curly or all over curl, do not use a brush - finger pick thoroughly and gently remove tangles.

2 - In a sink or basin add wig shampoo, fill with cold water, then immerse wig or hairpiece. Gently swirl and let soak for 5 minutes. Rinse wig in cold water until all wig shampoo is removed.

3 - Apply generous amount of wig conditioner and gently work through hair with fingertips Rinse thoroughly with cold water. Drain and blot gently with towel DO NOT SQUEEZE OR WRING Allow to air dry on a wire wig stand or a slender object like a can of hair spray. DO NOT USE A HAIRDRYER!

4 - Brush wig only when completely dry.

DRYING YOUR WIG

Wrap in a towel and gently pat out excess water. DO NOT TWIST, OR BRUSH YOUR WIG WHILE WET. Gently fluff your damp wig. Important! Allow wig to dry naturally and air dry! For a healthy shine, spray on your spray conditioner.

MAINTAIN A WIG’S NATURAL LOOK

Do's and Don'ts

DO spray your wig or hairpiece with wig luster between washings to add shine and body.

DO use wig products to keep your wig or hairpiece looking it's best.

DO use curling iron or blow dryer on human hair wigs or hair pieces.

DON'T use regular shampoo, conditioner, delicate fabric wash, or baby products on your wig or hairpiece.

DON'T use a hot curling iron or hair dryer on synthetic wigs or hairpiece.

DON'T brush or wring out your wet wig or hairpiece.

DON'T wear a wig or hairpiece near any sources of excessive heat such as an open oven, boiling water, barbecue grill or even some cigarette lighters.

DON’T begin combing at the top or middle and always comb down.
